Epic Is Retiring the MetaHuman Creator Web App
Epic Games is phasing out the standalone MetaHuman Creator web app as the tool moves fully into Unreal Engine.
Epic Games is retiring the standalone MetaHuman Creator web application later this year.
The company has confirmed that access to the web version will end on 5 November 2026, with the tool now integrated directly into Unreal Engine.
That does not mean MetaHuman itself is going away. Instead, Epic is shifting the character creation workflow away from the browser-based app and into Unreal Engine, where creators can build, edit and use MetaHumans more directly inside their projects.
The shutdown is being handled in stages, with older Unreal Engine version options removed first before access to the web app closes completely in November.
For developers and creators who still have MetaHumans stored through the old web workflow, Epic is giving users time to retrieve their characters before access is fully removed.
For players, this is unlikely to be something they notice directly. But behind the scenes, MetaHuman has become an important part of Epic's broader toolset, especially for studios creating realistic characters for games, film, virtual production and real-time experiences.
Moving MetaHuman fully into Unreal Engine makes sense for Epic's long-term plans. It also shows how much the engine has grown beyond being just a place where games are assembled.
