Guild Wars 3 Officially Announced: Everything We Know So Far
ArenaNet has finally unveiled Guild Wars 3, bringing the long-running MMORPG franchise back with a new setting, new gameplay systems, and a move to Unreal Engine 5.
After years of rumours and speculation, ArenaNet has officially revealed Guild Wars 3 during Summer Game Fest 2026.
The announcement marks the first new mainline entry in the franchise since Guild Wars 2 launched back in 2012 and gives players their first look at where the series is heading next.
Rather than continuing the story established in Guild Wars 2, ArenaNet is taking players more than a thousand years into Tyria's past. The studio says the game will explore the era surrounding the legendary Guild Wars, allowing players to experience one of the most important periods in the world's history for themselves.
Exploration appears to be a major focus this time around. The reveal trailer showcased sprawling environments, dense forests, towering mountain ranges and fast-paced traversal mechanics, suggesting that movement will play a much larger role in how players experience the world.
ArenaNet has also teased new companion systems that go beyond traditional mounts or combat pets. While details remain limited for now, the studio says companions will play a meaningful role throughout the adventure.
One of the more surprising announcements was confirmation that Guild Wars 3 is being built using Unreal Engine 5. Previous games in the series relied on ArenaNet's own technology, making this a significant shift for the studio. For players, the move could mean larger environments, improved visuals and more ambitious world design than ever before.
The game is currently planned for both PC and PlayStation 5, making it the first mainline Guild Wars title to launch on consoles. ArenaNet has also confirmed that Guild Wars 2 will continue to receive support alongside development of its successor.
There's still a long road ahead before players can get their hands on Guild Wars 3, but after years of uncertainty, fans finally have confirmation that Tyria's next chapter is on the way.
