Speaking about A Realm Beyond Paul said that sticking too much to nostalgia would result in rehashing what's been before and that doesn't lead to a future. However, too much innovation would mean an unrecognisable experience for gamers.
The hope for now is that Spyro lives on for a long time not just with this new game, but many more to follow it.
